La Calabria è tra le regioni a rischio sovraffollamento nelle carceri. Secondo le rilevazioni del Dipartimento amministrazione penitenziaria, le carceri calabresi hanno una capienza di 1778 posti e di tolleranza di 2996. Al 4 gennaio scorso, i detenuti reclusi erano 2857.
